The Plagues of Iran 2020! Record-rains, Record-snowfall, Record locust invasion and the third biggest number of Covid-19 cases: Guilty of lying and downing Airlines flight: General Qassem Soleimani assassinated

Locusts swarming Iran

Iran just can't catch a break, heavy rains since February 24th have caused chaos to many villages and farms, displacing hundreds. More heavy rain is expected throughout March and April. Last April, unprecedented floods killed more than 80 people and damaged or destroyed 100,000 homes in Iran.

The rains are helping the swarms of locusts who are devasting crops in the southwest (southern Khuzestan, Busherh, southern Fars, western Hormozgan provinces). New swarms are expected to hatch later this week and form hopper bands. Local breeding continues in the southeast where hoppers are forming groups and bands in eastern Hormozgan. TBW

The locust outbreak in the Arabian Peninsula has been spreading to Iran, threatening crops and food security in large areas of the coastal province of Hormozgan, an official said. Director of a department at Horkozgan's agricultural organization told Tasnim that Iran is facing the worst locust attack in the past 40 years. TBW

Earlier in February, a record-breaking six-meter (20 feet) of snow caused chaos to roads in some areas. TBW

To make matters worse Iran has struggled to contain the coronavirus with the third biggest number of confirmed cases, almost 10,000, behind only Italy and mainland China.

In January, Major General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), were killed in US airstrikes in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. TBW

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Iran's capital, Tehran, to vent anger at officials, calling them liars for having denied shooting down a Ukrainian passenger plane. Protests took place outside at least two universities, with tear gas reportedly fired. The administration admitted accidentally shooting down the plane almost a week later after many denials. TBW
