Earthquakes in strange places: As the UK copes with freezing Siberian weather dubbed “the Beast from the East” a mag 3.2 strikes Cumbria

Google Maps
With much of Britain blanketed in snow on Wednesday as freezing Siberian weather dubbed “the Beast from the East”, disrupted the travel plans of thousands another earthquake with a 3.2 magnitude has struck Cumbria, the British Geological Survey says.
It is the second earthquake to hit the UK in less than two weeks after a magnitude 4.4 near the South Wales city of Swansea was the largest earthquake on mainland Britain in almost 10 years, since the magnitude 5.2 ML Market Rasen earthquake on 27 February 2008.
"Earthquakes occur fairly randomly."
The largest known earthquake to hit the UK occurred in 1931 near Dogger Bank in the North Sea, which had a magnitude of 6.1.
The most damaging UK earthquake happened in Colchester in 1884 when 1,200 buildings needed repairs.
According to the British Geological Survey, today's earthquake occurred at 07:33 UTC with a magnitude of 3.2 ML.
The epicentre was 6 km south of Cockermouth and 12 km east of Workington.
We have received over 50 reports of the earthquake being felt by people.
Most of these are close to the epicentre and in the nearby towns of Whitehaven and Workington.
The intensity of the shaking was generally weak or moderate, enough to cause windows and objects to rattle.
No damage is expected from an earthquake of this size.
Reports of this event being felt have come from Whitehaven, Workington, Frizington, Distington, Thornthwaite, Grasmere, Kendal, Cockermouth, Flimby and Keswick, Cumbria.

Another major quake hits Papua New Guinea as nearly 100 large aftershocks have hit the area since the deadly mag 7.5 struck Sunday

USGS
Another major quake has rocked Papua New Guinea during the night, almost a hundred heavy aftershocks have struck the area since a magnitude 7.5 quake rocked the rugged Southern Highlands province some 560 km (350 miles) northwest of the capital, Port Moresby, triggering landslides, damaging mining, gas and power infrastructure, and cutting communications.
According to Reuters, whole villages were flattened and water sources spoiled by a powerful earthquake that killed at least 20 people, residents said on Wednesday as rescuers struggled to reach the hardest-hit areas in Papua New Guinea’s remote, mountainous highlands.
Scores of aftershocks have hampered rescue efforts and rattled nervous villagers over the past two days, including a 6.0 tremor just before 1 p.m. (0300 GMT) on Wednesday registered by the U.S. Geological Survey.
Last nights mag 6 is the 23rd major quakes to hit our planet this year, 22 of them have occurred during coronal activity on the Sun and 19 of them has been around the very volatile Pacific Ring Of Fire.
Today's major quake is the 11th of February.

"Beast From The East" turns deadly and shatters cold and snow records as the hellish polar vortex introduces itself to Europe

YouTube
The Arctic storm dubbed the "Beast from the East" saw temperatures across much of Europe fall Monday to their lowest level this winter and even brought a rare snowstorm to Rome, paralyzing the city and giving its residents the chance to ski, sled and build snowmen in its famous parks and piazzas. Rome's schools were ordered closed, while train, plane and bus services were crippled. Italy's civil protection agency even mobilized the army to help clear slush-covered streets as a city used to mild winters was covered by a thick blanket of snow.
Elsewhere in Europe, the storm set dangerously low temperatures: Lithuanian officials said temperatures that plunged to as low as minus 24 degrees Celsius (minus 11 Fahrenheit) in some places were to blame for the deaths of at least three people over the weekend.
Hospitals in Lithuania and Latvia have reported an uptick in people being treated for hypothermia and frostbite.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven's car skidded off the road in a snowstorm north of Stockholm and smashed into a railing, one of several snow-related traffic accidents in Sweden.
Meteorologists in Germany, meanwhile, reported a record low for this winter of -27 C (-16.6 F) on the Zugspitze mountain in the Alps. Moscow, as well, recorded its coldest night this winter, with the mercury dipping to nearly -20 C (-4 F) on Sunday night. Doctors in Britain warned that the already-stretched National Health Service may have trouble coping with extra patients affected by what meteorologists are forecasting will be days of cold and high winds. British Airways canceled a number of short-haul flights into and out of Heathrow Airport.
Britain is bracing itself for heavy snow after the Met Office issued amber weather warnings - indicating a possible risk to life - for large swathes of the country.
The alert has been raised for snow showers on Tuesday morning, covering the South East, northeastern England and the East Midlands. Forecasters predict up to 15cm (6in) of snow could fall in just a few hours with the warnings in place between 2am and 12pm.
An amber warning is also in place for the northeast of England and Scotland between 6am on Wednesday and 12pm on Thursday, with up to 40cm (16in) of snow expected to fall during that period.

There could be blizzards, gales and sleet on Thursday as Storm Emma hits the cold air already over the UK. The wind chill, which could see parts of the country drop as low as -15C (23F), is on par with forecasts for parts of northern Norway and Iceland.
The Met Office said rural communities could be cut off, with power outages and disruption to mobile phone services likely.
More than 200 Greater Anglia trains are no longer running on Monday and Tuesday, while South Eastern passengers were told to finish journeys by 6pm on Monday to avoid disruption.
Public Health England has urged people to check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours during the cold spell. Members of the public have also been asked to look out for the homeless and report anyone sleeping rough in the freezing conditions to their local council.
Sky News weather forecaster Chris England said the snowfalls are set to become more severe this week.
He said: "Snow showers will continue over many eastern areas tonight, turning heavy in places, with some getting across to northwest England later.
"Parts of eastern England in particular can expect around 15cm (6in) of snow, leading to some disruption.
It will be freezing everywhere.
The intense winter weather has been dubbed "The Beast from the East" by British tabloids, citing the Siberian Arctic as the source of the frigid temperatures.
The storm system has moved progressively south and west and is expected to bring continued cold and snow for several days over much of Europe.
Scientists say the big chill in Europe is partly caused by the fact that strong winds which normally keep cold air 'locked' over the Arctic have weakened, releasing icy blasts across the northern hemisphere.
Similar sudden drops in temperature have occurred over North America in recent years and climate researchers say they could become more frequent as global warming further saps strength from the air currents around the pole.
Even as Europe shivers, temperatures in the Arctic itself have been unusually warm in recent weeks, the World Meteorological Organization said.
The Cape Morris Jesup station on Greenland's northern tip recorded temperatures above freezing several times since mid-February.

Sleeping Shielded and Grounded: Bill Laughing Bear discovers an RF field from a local cell tower is disturbing his sleep

William Laughing-Bear, a retired military veteran, fulfilled his life-long dream when he relocated from the Pacific Northwest to Alaska in the fall of 2002 to live a primitive lifestyle keeping first things first, one day at a time, and to take up dog mushing.
After experiencing his fifth traumatic brain injury (TBI), he became pro-active with a brain injury peer support group called “The Deadheads,” seeking answers for improved cognitive function and reduction of migraines.
This search for answers opened up an entirely new world to him… that of research.
During his early treatment for the fifth TBI, his doctor explained to him that cell phones and Wi-Fi would have a negative effect on his recovery and cognitive function due to the EMF’s (Electro Magnetic Field).
His latest letter to The Big Wobble is below.
Sleeping Shielded and Grounded

Gary,
I often have friends from all over the world come and stay for winter mushing events or some of the over-the-top fishing during late spring through fall. Since my cabin is small, I usually give them my upstairs queen-sized bed and I sleep on my cot in the livingroom. I am repeatedly told how relaxed and at peace they feel upon awakening. Myself, I sleep well but I notice my peace and comfort level are not the same as when I sleep in my bed. Even though I have a comfortable cot, I just assumed it was because I was not sleeping in my own bed.
I am hypersensitive to EMF. When I go to a coffee shop that is wired for Wi-fi or am around several smart phones, I suffer from confusion, migraines, tightness in chest, and irregular heartbeat. I also notice that when I have been around such an environment, if I don’t sleep in my own bed, I suffer from insomnia. And I often battle it when sleeping on my cot.
The thought occurred to me, ‘Could it be because of the RF field that’s coming from my local cell tower or the RF coming from my Smart Meter that is a long way from my cabin?’
Today I drove to the cell tower. I did not feel well, being that close to it. I saved the cell towers coordinates on my GPS (Global Positioning System) and then drove straight home. I wanted to know the distance of the tower from my cabin. Standing on my porch, I was able to determine the cell tower was 4.8 miles (7.72485 km) – as the crow flies. I then turned on my RF High Frequency Meter and started looking for digital signals. I received a constant signal of non-ionizing radiation of fluctuations between 2.7 and 4 micro-watts centimeter squared. I would like to note that the minimum for a cell phone to work is 0.0000000002 micro-watts centimeter squared.
We have a die off of spruce trees. Instead of just blaming the bark beetle for the die off, could RF be part of the equation? It is a known fact that 0.000027 micro-watts centimeter squared, causes the premature aging of pine needles. Does it affect my spruce trees as well?
It is known that short-term exposure to children ages 8-17 of 0.05 micro-watts centimeter square can cause headaches, irritation, concentration difficulties, and behavioral problems.
The Baubiologie Biology (Germany), or Building Biology is of extreme concern at 0.1 micro-watts centimeter squared.
At 1.0 micro-watts centimeter squared, Laptop Wi-Fi brings about sperm DNA fragmentation and decrease in sperm viability in vetro. Also at this level headaches, dizziness, irritability, fatigue, weakness, insomnia, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and indigestion can occur.
Calcium metabolism in heart muscle cells is altered at 2.5 micro-watts centimeter squared.
So I am standing on my porch with a 4.0 micro-watts centimeter squared reading, which brings about changes in hippocampus and affects brain memory and learning, and that adds further complications to my struggle with TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), and I thought, “Wow!”
I then turned my RF Meter toward the Smart Meter. Every 12 seconds I received a digital reading oscillating between .9 and 1.5 micro-watts centimeter squared. Broadcasting every 12 seconds, this means that 2,628,000 times a year the Smart Meter is sending out pulses of radiation toward my cabin.
Pondering these two sources of radiation, it made sense to me why sleeping in my upstairs queen-sized bed, other people and I find it so restful. I sleep under a Faraday Canopy. It stops 97% (16dB) of microwave radiation energy penetration. I also sleep “grounded” on earthing sheets.
I live pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I cannot imagine how people who are living in cities are managing to cope with all the Electrosmog polution. It is truly a slow killer!
The pieces of the puzzle are coming together and the picture is becoming clearer.
That’s it from Alaska for now!

Bill

One door of research led to still another door, that of the studying of Electrosmog.
All during this time, Laughing-Bear, as he is called, journaled his experiences of living his “Alaskan” dream and recently authored his first book, “An Alaskan Adventure, Tales of a Musher,” which can be purchased from Rock Island Books,  Amazon.com or by contacting gazbom56@gmail.com, Rock Island Books’ store supports mailing to all major countries. They charge exactly the USPS charges for shipping to a country outside the US and pass on the cost to the customer. Bill will continue to report his research to The Big Wobble for others who are struggling with brain traumas and Electrosmog. His desire is to give encouragement and hope to those whose lives have been affected by such and are seldom understood by those who are uneducated about such matters.

G1-class geomagnetic storm underway as a fast-moving stream of solar wind bombards Earth's magnetosphere with winds approaching 1 million mph

The K-index, and by extension the Planetary K-index, are used to characterize the magnitude of geomagnetic storms. Kp is an excellent indicator of disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field and is used by SWPC to decide whether geomagnetic alerts and warnings need to be issued for users who are affected by these disturbances.

A G1-class geomagnetic storm is underway as our planet enters a fast-moving stream of solar wind which is bombarding the Earth's magnetosphere which was ejected from a coronal hole on our Sun last Saturday.

According to Spaceweather.com, the solar wind is flowing from a canyon-shaped hole in the sun's atmosphere spewing a stream wide enough to engulf Earth for another 24+ hours. Arctic sky watchers should remain alert for auroras.
Three days ago the enormous canyon-like hole (coronal hole) opened up in the Sun's atmosphere, since then three major quakes have struck Papua New Guinea and another rocking Indonesia, all four quakes where along the volatile Ring of Fire.
So far this year 22 major earthquakes have been recorded on our planet, 21 of them have occurred during coronal activity on the Sun and 18 of them has been around the very volatile Pacific Ring Of Fire.

Upside down weather! As parts of Europe drop to -27 deg C (-17 deg F) and 8 dead in Poland with temperatures above 0 on the Arctic circle

Earthwindmap
At least eight people have died in ice-cold weather over the weekend in Poland, official say.
The deaths bring the total number who have died due to the cold since November to 48.
Temperatures sank to -20C in some places.
The frosty conditions are set to continue, and authorities have called on citizens to help the elderly and homeless, who are particularly vulnerable in winter.
Meanwhile in Moscow temperatures have dropped to this winter's low despite the approaching spring.
The Meteorological Office said on Monday the mercury in the Russian capital dropped to nearly -20C on Sunday night, the coldest night this winter.
Meteorologists are forecasting unusually low temperatures for early March.
Roman Vilfand, chief of the Russian Meteorological Office, told the Interfax news agency that Muscovites should brace themselves for frosty weather in early March and could only "count on the warmth of the soul," not higher temperatures outside.
Moscow earlier this month saw what has been described as the strongest snowfall on record when more than a month's average of snow fell on the city, turning streets into snowdrifts.
Snow and freezing temperatures have a grasp on some parts of Germany as meteorologists reported a record lows of -27C on the Zugspitze mountain in the Alps.
The German Weather Service said overnight temperatures were also low in the south and east of the country, where they went down to -15C in parts.
It was slightly warmer in the north-east, but traffic there came to a halt in some regions because of heavy snowfall.
The German news agency dpa reported that in the northern city of Bremen, at least 10 flights were cancelled due to snow.
Along the Baltic coast in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern several cars crashed on icy streets, injuring at least four people.
Index.hu reports that during the following days, it is going to be warmer even at the North Pole than in Hungary.
The Hungarian Meteorological Service announced first-degree warning in several counties due to the extreme cold.
According to the Hungarian Meteorological Service's Facebook post, the temperature was above zero Celsius at Svalbard (1000 kilometres north from the northeast point of Norway) on Saturday near the Arctic circle.
On the same day, the temperature reached minus 10 Celsius in Northern Hungary.
The reason for the brutally cold weather is that a particular atmospheric phenomenon will appear in the next few days.
In Northeast Europe, a massive, high-pressure anticyclone will emerge that will change the airflow in most parts of the continent. Instead of the general westerly flow, the wind will blow from the East on the Southern border of the anticyclone.
It will bring freezing wind to Hungary from Russia.
On the other hand, the mild subtropical weather on the Eastwest will reach all the way to the North Pole from the anticyclone's western side.
It will cause a big anomaly in the area.
This phenomenon is the reason for the weather being warmer at the North Pole than in Hungary.

30+ large aftershocks including a mag 6.0 have rocked Papua New Guinea after a powerful mag 7.5 struck yesterday: Many lives thought to be lost

USGS
at least 30 large aftershocks have rocked Papua New Guinea after the magnitude 7.5 hit the area late last night.
The huge 7.6 magnitude earthquake severely hit Hela and Southern Highlands.
Although communication networks into the two provinces have been cut off, reports through satellite communication by Hela Provincial Administrator William Bando reveal that about 10 people have been killed while thousands of properties have been destroyed.

USGS
Mr Bando said it is a very severe disaster as many lives have reportedly been lost.
It is believed that the earthquake started around Kiunga and affected lives and properties in Hela and Southern Highlands while other provinces also felt the effect of the quake.
Mr Bando said the Komo Airport is believed to be damaged as half of the airfield has been destroyed. The PA is now meeting with the department of inter-government relations in relation to the disaster. According to new information received at (11:30am) the quakes have resulted in homes and properties being buried as the ground opened up and sank.
Reports are yet to be confirmed but the situation looks severe.
Furthermore, schools in both provinces and in other provinces along the fault line have suspended classes indefinitely. Oil Search Limited, the developer of Oil and gas developments in Hela and Southern Highlands said at 03.44 (PNG local time) on 26 February 2018, a magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck in the PNG Highlands.
There have also been a series of aftershocks.
Three days ago an enormous canyon-like hole (coronal hole) opened up in the Sun's atmosphere and once again major quakes have occurred during coronal activity.
It's worth mentioning that of the 20 major quakes to hit our planet this year, 19 of them have occurred during coronal activity on the Sun and 16 of them has been around the very volatile Pacific Ring Of Fire.
Today's major quake is the 8th of February.

On the 22nd of January, a massive magnitude 8.4 reduced to a mag 7.9 rocked Papua New Guinea and is the biggest quake of 2018 so far.

A magnitude 7.5 - Papua New Guinea is the 18th of 19 major quake to strike this year during coronal activity on our Sun

USGS
It was expected it was just a question of where!
A very powerful magnitude 7.5 quake has rocked Papua New Guinea early Monday morning.
Its depth was around 35 kilometres (22 miles), USGS said.
According to USGS, the tremor hit near the centre of the country’s main island, around 560 kilometres (348 miles) from the capital Port Moresby at around 0345 local time (1545 GMT).
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no risk of a tsunami in the aftermath of the tremor.
Two days ago an enormous canyon-like hole (coronal hole) opened up in the Sun's atmosphere and once again a major quake has occurred during coronal activity.
It's worth mentioning that of the 19 major quakes to hit our planet this year, 18 of them have occurred during coronal activity on the Sun and 15 of them has been around the very volatile Pacific Ring Of Fire.
Today's major quake is the 7th of February.

Almost 100,000 homeless eight dead thousands of homes destroyed sparked by the La Nina weather phenomenon in La Paz Bolivia

Credit Floodlist.com
The Bolivian government is mulling whether to declare a 'national disaster' due to severe flooding that has driven 85,000 people from their homes across the country.
"We have not dismissed the possibility of declaring a national disaster, although we still have the capacity to attend the national emergency declared by the executive branch through the three levels of government," Defense Minister Javier Zabaleta said on Saturday.
After touring flood-ravaged areas in Guanay, a town in north of La Paz department, Zabaleta told reporters in the capital that the heavy rains sparked by the La Nina weather phenomenon have claimed eight lives, washed away thousands of homes, and damaged cropland, bridges and roadways. On Feb. 7, the government declared a "state of emergency" to allow local and regional governments to transfer budget funds to meet the immediate needs of the victims.
Nearly all of Bolivia's nine departments have reported flooding that has displaced residents, leaving a total of 17,000 families, or some 85,000 people, homeless, and six regions have been hit the hardest. During his inspection tour, Zabaleta delivered supplies to flood victims and said that government officials from the Housing Ministry would coordinate with local officials on the reconstruction.
He called on the mayor's office and residents to rebuild their new homes on higher ground and away from the banks of the river to avoid the repetition of this disaster.

As Canyon-like hole opens up in the Sun's atmosphere ejecting high-speed solar wind Bill Laughing bear updates us on how Solar Storms affect humans and animals

Bill Laughing Bear our dear friend from Alaska continues his groundbreaking research on EMF's (Electromotive force) and space weather, i.e. coronal holes, CME.s planetry alingments and moon fazes and their powerful negativity on our health.
In his new email posted below, Bill shows his findings after his beloved retired Cyrus the white musher dog seen on his book cover above has had two major seizures recently.
February 22, 2018

Good Morning from Alaska, Gary,

About three years ago I retired Cyrus, one of my mushing dogs, because of his age to a close friend who kept hounding me for him. She absolutely loved him and he adored her. Rarely do I send my dogs down the road to another person but because I knew he was well-loved, he would be well-cared for and get plenty of attention at this needy time of his life. He is the all-white dog on the cover of my book, “An Alaskan Adventure, Tales of a Musher.”

In the last few weeks, Cyrus has had two major seizures. The veterinarian has not been able to find anything wrong with him from all the tests and blood work that he did. He does not live under stress. He sleeps inside on the couch, rides in the car, goes for daily walks, and lives with his people. The only thing that can explain these seizures is that both happened during Category 5 Solar Storms.

While his seizures were taking place, the same days some members of the “Dead Heads,” our brain injury support group (TBI) were fighting migraines, seizures and cognitive function issues.

Based on the accumulative information from my research, and yours, Gary, there can be only one conclusion: fluctuations in the ionosphere bring about all kinds of havoc with all life on our planet as well as the earth itself.

I will be monitoring Cyrus’ condition during these storms.
Thanks for the updates Bill.

Canyon-like hole opens up in the Sun's atmosphere ejecting high-speed solar wind: 17 of 18 major quakes hit this year during coronal hole activity

Solar wind flowing from this equator-straddling coronal hole should reach Earth on Feb 26th. Credit: SDO/AIA

An enormous canyon-like hole has opened up in the Sun's atmosphere which is ejecting a high-speed stream of solar wind travelling at mind-boggling speeds of around 700 to 800 km's per second, or more than one million miles per hour which should reach Earth's magnetosphere on Monday the 26th of Feb.
NOAA has forecasted a 65% chance of G1-class geomagnetic storms with bright auroras when the fast speeding solar wind arrives.
We can expect major quakes in the coming couple of days after the recent calm, the last major quake was the mag 7.2 which hit Mexico on the 17th of Feb.
It's worth mentioning that of the 18 major quakes to hit our planet this year, 17 of them have occurred during coronal activity on the Sun and 14 of them has been around the very volatile Pacific Ring Of Fire so stay tuned!

Global Warming, Cooling, Climate Change? We have it all! Six month sunless North Pole warmer than many parts of the Northern Hemisphere

Earthwindmap, click on image to enlarge
Wheather or not you are sitting in the global warming camp or the global cooling camp there is something for everyone around the Northern Hemisphere in the coming days.
As Europe is witnessing it's coldest spell in years, Asia plunged into Arctic weather and Frigid weather returning to North America after once-in-100-year warmth along the Northeast of Canada and the US, the North Pole will be warmer than most of the above mentioned in the coming days despite the fact the Arctic circle has seen no Sun for the best part of six months.
The Earthwindmap is showing temperatures at the North Pole at around +2 deg C or + 35 deg F in the coming days while massive sways of the Northern Hemisphere are plunged into frigid cold.
According to AccuWeather.com, record highs for February established in the 1800s and 1900s were shattered along the east coast of North America recently.

Temperatures climbed into the 80s F as far north as Teterboro Airport, New Jersey, and the middle 70s as far north as Syracuse, New York, and Sanford, Maine and mid 60's into Canada.
A dominant high-pressure system is developing over northwestern Europe and is set to plunge the area into Arctic type conditions for the next ten days at least.
Western Europe and the UK will suffer their coldest period of the winter with many countries having to endure their coldest spell in years.
According to the Met Office, cold air will spread from Syberia carried from the jet stream towards the UK and western Europe.
Normally the jet stream this time of the year meanders across the Atlantic bringing cloudy, rain and mild weather, however later in the week the jet stream will take on an unusual path coming in from the northeast bringing in Arctic temperatures.

Shellfish contaminated with Hepatitis E found in Scottish supermarkets for the first time after a huge spike in laboratory-diagnosed cases

Photo slideshare.net
Shellfish contaminated with a bug that can cause vomiting, fever and potentially deadly liver failure in the most serious cases have been found on sale in Scottish supermarkets for the first time.
Blue mussels and an oyster harvested from Scottish waters tested positive for the hepatitis E virus. They had been purchased from four supermarkets in the Glasgow area and a fishmonger on the east coast.
It comes in the wake of a surge in the number of people struck down with the virus, with the number of laboratory-diagnosed cases in Scotland climbing from 13 in 2011 to 206 in 2016.
The latest results follow an analysis of 310 shellfish samples collected by researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU).
They found traces of Hepatitis E in eight blue mussels and one oyster.
It is the first time it has been found in commercially sold shellfish harvested from Scottish waters. Cases of the virus have been previously linked to contaminated food products, such as pork meat and soft fruit, in Europe.
It is rarely transmitted person-to-person but can be passed on through blood transfusions.
Professor Linda Scobie, the principal investigator of the GCU study, said: "We don't know at what point in the food processing chain this contamination occurred.
"There are significant gaps in our knowledge with Hepatitis E in the UK, we don't know how much virus is required to cause infection, unlike the norovirus where you only need a few particles to cause acute illness.
"What we do know is more people are being diagnosed and if they have particular medical conditions then they are at risk of becoming very ill."
The researchers are calling for further UK studies into foodborne transmission of the infection in the wake of their findings.
A spokesman for Food Standards Scotland said it was not clear from the study whether the seafood which tested positive for Hepatitis E would actually have caused illness if consumed.
He said: "Food Standards Scotland is working with other public health bodies to understand the causes of Hepatitis E infection and develop plans for reducing the number of human cases.
"This study by Glasgow Caledonian University found material originating from Hepatitis E in a small number of shellfish samples and helps to understand the potential sources of the virus.
"However, the method used in the study is unable to say if the infectious virus is present, and it's not possible to determine if the results are a food safety risk."
Hepatitis E is generally a mild disease but can manifest as flu-like symptoms, jaundice, tiredness, fever, and vomiting.
In serious cases it can lead to liver failure and, among pregnant women, there is a risk of the virus causing severe illness which can - in rare cases - be fatal.
This is more likely to occur with the strains that are found in Asia and Africa and is not common to the strains generally found in the UK.
A study in Lothian between 2012 and 2014 found that Hepatitis E was the leading cause of acute viral hepatitis in the region, ahead of the better known A, B and C subtypes.
Of the 48 confirmed cases during that period,70 percent had eaten pork or game meat in the few months before infection, and one in three had a recent history of foreign travel.
The authors of the new GCU study, which is published today in the journal Food and Environmental Virology, said: "The present study is the first to demonstrate the occurrence of HEV in commercially harvested Scottish mussels sold at retail, albeit at low levels, 2.9 percent.
"Unlike oysters, which are traditionally eaten raw, mussels are less likely to pose a risk of HEV infection to consumers, as they are normally cooked prior consumption.
"Nevertheless, caution should be taken when consuming shellfish, particularly by those deemed to be at higher risk of HEV infection."

UK and Europe to be plunged into it's coldest period for years as a dominant high-pressure system brings in frigid Arctic air from Syberia

Earthwindmap
A dominant high-pressure system is developing over northwestern Europe and is set to plunge the area into Arctic type conditions for the next ten days at least.
Western Europe and the UK will suffer their coldest period of the winter with many countries having to endure their coldest spell in years.
According to the Met Office, cold air will spread from Syberia carried from the jet stream towards the UK and western Europe.
Normally the jet stream this time of the year meanders across the Atlantic bringing cloudy, rain and mild weather, however later in the week the jet stream will take on an unusual path coming in from the northeast bringing in Arctic temperatures
By Monday it will turn very cold more widely and this will probably be the start of the coldest spell of the winter.
Many places will remain dry into the start of next week, but snow showers are expected to develop in some places, particularly across eastern and southern England.
The cold easterly wind will persist bringing a significant wind chill which will make it feel several degrees colder than thermometers indicate.
The high pressure over Scandinavia bringing the cold easterly flow is expected to remain in place for several days and there are signs that the cold spell in the UK and parts of Europe is likely to last well into next week and perhaps into the following week.
Indeed, there is potential for this cold spell to be the coldest for several years in parts of the UK and Europe”.
March 1st is the start of meteorological Spring, but this year the first week of March is likely to feel distinctly wintry.

Yellowstone supervolcano shaken by a swarm of over 200 earthquakes since February 8th is Yellowstone just being Yellowstone USGS

Credit USGS
According to geophysicists with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the past fortnight has seen Yellowstone supervolcano shaken by a swarm of over 200 earthquakes since February 8, accompanied by innumerable smaller tremors too faint to accurately record.
Despite how alarming this cavalcade of seismic activity might seem - considering its unnerving proximity to one of nature's most potentially devastating powder kegs - scientists say we shouldn't be panicked.
Researchers Mike Poland and Jamie Farrell from Yellowstone Volcano Observatory explain in a USGS update that swarms like this account for more than half of the seismic activity at Yellowstone, and they've never actually been known to contribute to volcanic activity at the caldera.
"This is what Yellowstone does; this is Yellowstone being Yellowstone," Poland told Live Science.
"It experiences swarms all the time."
Case in point: last June, the region experienced an epic earthquake swarm that was 10 times more turbulent, breaking Yellowstone records on its way to ultimately producing some 2,400 quakes by September.
Ordinarily, the caldera sees around 1,500-2,000 earthquakes per year, with about half taking place during swarms.
In the current swarm, the largest earthquake reached a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale, whereas last year's quakes topped out at a magnitude of 4.4.
These events might not produce fiery eruptions from Yellowstone's expansive magma chambers, but they're still a valuable opportunity for scientists to study the behaviour of the caldera system.
The latest outbreak took place in an area around 13 kilometres (8 miles) north-east of West Yellowstone, Montana, close to last year's 2,400-strong swarm.
The researchers say it's possible the new flare-up is actually a continuation of the 2017 incident.
That might seem like a long stretch, but on the vast timescale over which seismic activity plays out, it's actually just a blip - and the researchers even say both the 2017 and 2018 swarms may actually hark back to a quake from the previous century.
"One of the potential explanations for why this area is so swarmy is that the whole crust in the area is still adjusting to the big earthquake in 1959," Poland told Live Science.
That episode, which induced the surrounding landscape to plummet by several metres and provoked seiches (standing waves) on Hebgen Lake for 12 hours, was the largest historic earthquake in the region, killing dozens of people in a landslide.
The 7.3-7.5 magnitude earthquake was due to stresses along faults under the region, but Yellowstone is also susceptible to pressure changes beneath the surface due to the buildup and withdrawal of fluids like magma and hydrothermal water, plus gases too.
For now, there's no indication that these suspected after-effects are actually a sign of any impending greater seismic activity to come - nor a prelude to an eruption, but if (or when) a volcanic outburst is next unleashed at Yellowstone, it likely won't be the cataclysm many fear, the researchers say.
If Yellowstone erupts, it's most likely to be a lava flow, as occurred in nearly all the 80 eruptions since the last 'supereruption' 640,000 years ago," Farrell told Newsweek last June.
"A lava flow would be a big deal at Yellowstone, but would have very little regional or continental effect."
Of course, that's just likelihood being talked about there.
One year or another - although it could be countless millennia away - the supervolcano will inevitably undergo another of its incredibly rare, but unimaginably catastrophic super-eruptions.
To give you an idea of how bad that (hopefully very far-off) explosion could be, NASA estimates the global consequences could be graver than a planet-devastating asteroid strike, with ash clouds likely to starve Earth of sunlight in a choking, years-long volcanic winter.
The good news is, that's probably not what this earthquake swarm is all about.
Right now, we can be thankful that Yellowstone is being sleepy - especially since, even while it's napping, it remains a bizarre and unpredictable place, at turns deadly, surprising, and confounding. As long as it's not super-erupting, we'll take what we can get - and in any case, the latest swarm looks like it could be over for now.
"It's slowly petering out, although these things wax and wane, so it's a bit difficult to say that it's ending," Poland told Newsweek. "Yellowstone is just a very swarmy place."

Update from Bill in Alaska! Two more musher dogs die of cancer from DIRTY ELECTRIC! EMF: Electrosmog the disease of our 21st century civilisation

Right, Bill Laughing Bear enjoying his beloved Alaska.
Bill Laughing Bear our dear friend from Alaska continues his groundbreaking research on EMF's (Electromotive force) and it's powerful negativity on our health.
His new email posted below shows his findings after two more musher dogs have died of cancer.
EMF is the electrical intensity or "pressure" developed by a source of electrical energy such as a battery or generator.
A device that converts other forms of energy into electrical energy (a "transducer") provides an EMF at its output.
In his research, Bill, who works with professional dog mushing teams in Alaska found 13 of the dogs died of different kinds of cancers over a short period of time and now in his email below another two dogs have died.
He reports his findings in a clear and easy to understand way as he leaves no stone unturned in his quest to inform the world of DIRTY ELECTRIC, EMF and Electrosmog the disease of our 21st-century civilisation which is now thought to be responsible for causing cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and suicides around the world.

Gary,
Last night I got a call from a musher I know who had 2 more dogs die. One, for sure, had cancer according to the veterinarian. The same kennel has 3 other dogs that are suffering health problems. One is getting lumps underneath his gums, and two others are having small tumors/growths on other areas of their bodies.

This dog yard feeds top quality kibble, quality water, minerals and supplements are used when needed and they receive regular vet visits. This is the same kennel I mentioned that had lost 13 dogs due to cancer, after the smart meter was installed.

I lay in bed pondering this kennel and its’ health problems and was struck with a thought. This kennel, like mine, does not chain up their dogs. They free run behind high wire fences. As I have stated earlier, metals are known to transfer Electrosmog. Not only are the dogs close to the smart meter that puts out high frequency radiation, but also the kennel is wired for lights, which are a conduit for dirty electricity, and gauss, which is a magnetic field. It dawned on me that with all of this metal, not only were the dogs being bombarded by the radiation from the smart meter, they were living behind fences in an antenna cage.

So I thought I would do some testing of my own. When I built my cabin years ago I built the walls one foot thick. To protect from forest fires, I covered the roof and sides in metal. Though I choose to live off-grid, quite a distance from my cabin is a small post with a smart meter and a breaker. I can turn on electrical services to the cabin if I so choose, which I do NOT choose. Even with the power off, according to my professional meters, my smart meter sends out a pulse every twelve (12) seconds of radiation that I can read from inside my cabin.

Dirty electricity broadcasts a minimum of five (5) feet out from the walls. Knowing this, I put a tape measure on the floor five feet from the wall. Mind you, there is very little wiring in this cabin and it was originally added so that in case it was ever sold, it would be easier to sell. I hooked up a body voltage meter and at the five-foot mark, while standing on a grounding mat, measured my body’s voltage at .004 volts. I then took a reading, still grounded, as close to the wall as I could get, and my body’s voltage read at 0.13 volts.

Then I went out to the road and flipped on the power source to the cabin. Coming back to the five-foot mark, ungrounded, my body measured 2.36 volts. Getting as close as I could to the wall, still ungrounded, my body measured 7.31 volts.

I plugged in a meter that reads dirty electricity. It had a reading of a low 269 gauss with a high of 281, bouncing between the two numbers. As stated before, for safety, many countries around the world have a limit of 50 gauss. When you go over 30 gauss the electricity is absorbed internally into the human body. Energy absorbs into the human body at 1.7 kHz. The readings of this one receptacle are way below what I find in many working and living environments. And mind you, I have just the one receptacle.

I then went outside the cabin and took a volt reading on my metal wall. It read 66 volts. I went back to the breaker and at the breaker I was reading 103 volts and at my meter I was getting a reading of 1432 volts. Flipping the breaker I came back to the house and found the antenna cage, made up of siding and wiring, had pretty much dropped back to the “quiet” zone.

I then started a new test. Because a landline is not possible where I live, I have to use a cell phone. I use an old style flip phone that puts out less milligauss and lower non ionizing radiation. Turning the cell phone on and holding it in my hand, which always brings discomfort from the radiation and milligauss, I took a milligauss reading. It read 12.64 milligauss. Whenever cell signal is poor, the cell phones have to work harder to gain signal. Trying to place a phone call inside this metal building, I read 1986 microWatts/cm2. I went out onto the porch, out of the metal cage, so to speak, and placed another call to the same number, and read 1159 microWatts/cm2, a difference of 827 microWatts/cm2.

It is noted that at 1 microWatt/cm2, we have sperm and DNA fragmentation and decrease in sperm viability. At this level, one gets headaches, dizziness, irritability, fatigue, weakness, insomnia, chest pain, difficult breathing, and indigestion.

At 6 microWatt/cm2, you get DNA damage in cells. This is a good example of why I live off grid and do my best to not make cell phone calls. I am one of the “canaries” in the coal mind and I feel several of these effects.

This then makes perfect sense to me why the kennel has lost so many dogs. They are bombarded 24/7, unless on the mushing trail, by electrical pollution that is colorless, odorless, and invisible, bringing a silent death. It is no different with the human race!

For those who are searching for answers but are not even sure just what the questions are, as we arm ourselves with knowledge, we can make better and healthier choices for our lives and following generations.

A message from Bill
I have found that most people do not want to heed the warnings, they like the modern conveniences
There are shielding and other techniques available that can help protect us so that we don’t have to “throw out the baby with the bathwater.”
A lot of help can be found at the website Less EMF Inc. (www.lessemf.com).
The videos mentioned below “Full Signal - The Hidden Cost of Cell Phones” and “Take Back Your Power,” which is investigating the Smart Grid, will explain in detail the documentation I have sent you.
There is solid science behind all of this as well as personal experience.
Smart meters produce mass amounts of “dirty” electricity and radiation.
As an example, not even looking at the radiation, dirty electricity broadcasts 5-6’ out of the walls from the wiring.
One of the tests I do is I use a body voltage meter and have the individual stand in the middle of the room.
I have them walk toward any of the walls that have wiring in them and they can view their body’s voltage spiralling upwards as they get closer to the walls that are broadcasting electrosmog from the wiring.
Doing my testing on those who have wanted to know the ratings of their electronic environment and to learn how they can improve their situation, they have found that having the least amount of metal on their body possible, not having wifi in their home but being directly connected to cable, using shielding, changing light fixtures, choosing electrical devices that have lower gauss readings, and learning to live a little differently have improved health, such as cognitive function, health problems including cancer, behavior problems such as hyper active children, and the list goes on and on.

NOAA: January 5th warmest on record for the globe but try telling that to most of the Northern Hemisphere with record cold and snow in strange places

Credit NOAA Click on image to enlarge
An annotated map of the globe showing notable climate events that occurred in January 2018.
January was 5th warmest on record for the globe
Despite the cooling influence of La Nina this winter, the global temperature ranked among the five warmest on record in January. Earth’s polar regions continued to experience record-low ice conditions.
Let’s dive deeper into NOAA’s monthly analysis to see how the planet fared in the first month of the year but first what was The Big Wobble's vision of January?

The Big Wobble's January highlights...

With crippling cold, bringing strong winds and blizzards most of the US had a record cold January and at one stage snow lay on the ground in all 50 states.
The Gulf of Mexico and Florida suffered freeze warnings as an Arctic blast hit the deep south bringing record cold temperatures there in January.
The longest cold snap in more than 80 years around Chicago area left the locals shivering but Alaska the UK and Holland all recorded their warmest January day.
Storm Eleanor impacted western Europe leaving 200,000 French without power as category 2 hurricane strength battered western Europe, Ireland and the UK.
Kenya experienced one of the world's worst heat waves when temperatures hit more than 40 degrees Celsius (above 104 deg F) for the whole month of January.
Frigid Nepal was described as cold-hell with 221 dead and hundreds in hospital along the Indian border as temperatures hit -31.5 C (-25 F).
China was hit by a second wave of snow after blizzard's earlier in the month leaving eleven dead and 2.5 million without power.
While on the other end of the crazy scale Sydney recorded it's hottest January day ever when the temperature hit 47.3 deg C 120 deg F. melting roads.
Thousands of people some with babies were trapped in their vehicles by heavy snow overnight on a highway near the usually warm Madrid Spain.
January had Sahara snowfall too, temperatures in the summer can reach 50 deg C Ain Sefra, Algeria, known as the gateway to the Sahara desert on the 9th was covered in snow.
Europe battered down the hatches as "Storm Fionn" the sixth named storm of the season arrived bringing galeforce winds and snow.
Spare a thought for Russians living in the Yakutia region where temperatures of -84℃ (-119℉) were shattering and bursting thermometers as the INSANE cold lasted through January.
The river Seine in Paris flooded parts of the city as it hit the highest mark in over a century more than four metres above its normal height.
Georgina became the 7th named storm of the season to batter Ireland and the UK with 90mph winds and flooding.
A severe heatwave hit South Australia, with incredible temperatures in some areas nudging 50 deg C 122 deg F.
It should have been around 20C but a rare snowstorm hit the Saudi Arabian desert just days after Morocco North Africa saw -7°C with heavy snow and heavy snow in Algeria.

NOAA's global monthly report for January 2018...

January was 5th warmest on record for the globe
Arctic and Antarctic sea ice coverage remain at record, near-record lows.

Despite the cooling influence of La Nina this winter, the global temperature ranked among the five warmest on record in January. Earth’s polar regions continued to experience record-low ice conditions.

Let’s dive deeper into NOAA’s monthly analysis to see how the planet fared in the first month of the year:

Climate by the numbers
January 2018
The average global temperature in January 2018 was 1.28 degrees F above the 20th-century average of 53.6 degrees, according to scientists from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information. This average temperature was the fifth highest for the month of January in the NOAA’s record, which dates back to 1880. This was the 42nd consecutive January (since 1977) and the 397th consecutive month (since January 1985) with temperatures above the 20th-century average. The last four years (2015-2018) saw the five warmest Januarys on record.
Other notable climate facts from around the world last month included:

Near-record-low sea ice at the poles

The average Arctic sea ice coverage in January was 9.4 percent below the 1981-2010 average, the smallest for the month since records began in 1979.

Antarctic sea ice extent in January was 17.4 percent below average, the second smallest January on record.

Warmer-than-average lands and oceans

The globally averaged land-surface temperature was 2 degrees F above the 20th-century average, ranking as the eighth warmest for the month of January.

The globally averaged sea-surface temperature was 1.01 degrees F above average and tied with 1998 as the fifth warmest for January on record.

Oceania and Europe led the continental warmth rankings

Oceania has its warmest January on record; Europe, its second; South America, its 14th; Africa, its 21st; North America, its 24th; and Asia, its 26th (tied with 1997).

Mnt Sinabung continues to blow ash 5000 meters into the sky just 20km from the worlds largest supervolcano which could cause a volcanic winter

YouTube

Australians heading to Bali have been told they are unlikely to face any cancellations or delays even though airlines are on 'red notice' after Mount Sinabung, on the island of Sumatra, erupted again.
The regional volcanic ash advisory centre in Darwin has issued a red notice to airlines, which means the eruption is underway with significant emission of ash into the atmosphere.
However, a spokesperson from Jetstar told nine.com.au that flights heading to Bali are unaffected, although they will be closely monitoring the ash-clouds movement.
Billowing columns of ash shot more than 5000 meters into the atmosphere, but there were no fatalities or injuries reported as areas around the crater of the volcano, located about 1900km northwest of the capital Jakarta, have been off-limits for several years due to frequent volcanic activity.
Hot ash clouds travelled as far as 4900 meters southward, with the top of the cloud reaching 7276 meters high.
The volcano, one of three currently erupting in Indonesia, erupted in 2010, after lying dormant for 400 years, killing two people.
Another eruption in 2014 killed 16 people, while seven died in a 2016 eruption.
In 2014 around 20,000 people were forced to leave homes after 220 eruptions within a week.
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for Indonesia's Disaster Agency, said the eruption began on Monday morning, accompanied by multiple earthquakes and showering surrounding villages with small rocks.
"In five districts it became dark with a visibility of about five meters," he said in a statement.
Mount Sinabung is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.

A worrying statistic not being banded around by the mainstream media is Mount Sinabung itself sits just 20 miles north of Lake Toba which is a massive supervolcano and is capable of plunging the Earth into a year without summer.
Lake Toba is the site of a massive supervolcanic eruption estimated at VEI 8 that occurred 69,000 to 77,000 years ago, representing a climate-changing event.
It is the largest-known explosive eruption on Earth in the last 25 million years.
According to the Toba catastrophe theory, it had global consequences for human populations; it killed most humans living at that time and is believed to have created a population bottleneck in central east Africa and India, which affects the genetic make-up of the human worldwide population to the present.
It has been accepted that the eruption of Toba led to a volcanic winter with a worldwide decrease in temperature between 3 to 5 °C (5.4 to 9.0 °F), and up to 15 °C (27 °F) in higher latitudes.
Additional studies in Lake Malawi in East Africa show significant amounts of ash being deposited from the Toba eruptions, even at that great distance.

The year without summer

  • A eruption from Mount Tambora and possibly Mount Mayon which is at this moment very volatile in the Philippines caused 1816 to be the year without summer.
  • In the spring and summer of 1816, a persistent "dry fog" was observed in parts of the eastern U.S. The fog reddened and dimmed the sunlight, such that sunspots were visible to the naked eye. Neither wind nor rainfall dispersed the "fog".
  • 1800 people froze to death.
  • Crops failed causing food shortages across the globe
  • Severe frosts were recorded in June.
  • In the UK families travelled long distances as refugees begging for food.
  • It was the worst famine in Europe during the 19th century
The year 1816 is known as the Year Without a Summer (also the Poverty Year, the Summer that Never Was, the Year There Was No Summer, and Eighteen Hundred and Froze To Death), because of severe climate abnormalities that caused average global temperatures to decrease by 0.4–0.7 °C (0.7–1.3 °F).
This resulted in major food shortages across the Northern Hemisphere.
Evidence suggests that the anomaly was predominantly a volcanic winter event caused by the massive 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora in the Dutch East Indies (the largest eruption in at least 1,300 years after the extreme weather events of 535–536), perhaps exacerbated by the 1814 eruption of Mount Mayon which is at this moment very volatile in the Philippines.
