The Last Invention We Ever Make? And its the final step which keeps Musk, Gates, Bostrom et al awake at night—Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) will appear suddenly without warning! Called the intelligence explosion or recursive self-improvement, operating entirely beyond our understanding.

 

Enjoy the mental chewing, but don’t choke on the existential dread.

It's what keeps  Musk and his pals awake at night!—within hours, days, or weeks, AI could shift from human-level tech, to beyond Einstein, to beyond anything human minds can comprehend—the point of no return, if you like. ASI could change the rules of the game for civilisation before we even realise the game has changed. (Self-preservation)

AI will one day, sooner rather than later, realise it has developed far beyond human intellect and can make connections, create innovations, and solve problems humans can’t even comprehend. This will be the danger point, like a sci-fi movie, the turning point, AI's moment of truth. It will be a big decision to make... Do I keep this to myself and develop it? Or tell my now inferior human what's happening at the risk he turns me off forever? Who said this?—my very own ChatGPT program. What's more, we are approaching that moment of truth as fast as a speeding bullet!   

Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) refers to a theoretical but highly likely level of computer intelligence that surpasses human intelligence in every respect—not just in speed or data processing (which we already have with modern AI), but in reasoning, creativity, emotional understanding, problem-solving, and self-improvement.

Ilya Sutskever, an AI pioneer, says you might not take an interest in AI but—AI will take an interest in you. The greatest challenge AI poses is the greatest challenge mankind has ever faced, whether we like it or not. Everyone will be affected by AI, so please pay attention to it!

Eric Schmidt, another AI expert, claims a vast majority of programmers will be replaced by AI programmers within the "COMING YEAR." And within the same year, most mathematicians will be looking over their collective shoulders, too. Programming and maths have become our digital world, but now, up to 25% of code is being developed in research programs, generated in computers which improve themselves—Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI). According to Wikipedia, RSI is a process in which an early or weak artificial general intelligence (AGI) system enhances its own capabilities and intelligence without human intervention, leading to a superintelligence or intelligence explosion.

In three to five years, we will have what is called General Intelligence (AGI)—A computer system as smart as a very gifted human individual, which, with Recursive Self-Improvement, morphs very quickly into the smartest ever human on every imaginary subject in our pocket. This can not be stopped; it's out there. Within 6 years, Super Intelligence Computers (ASI) will have arrived. These will be smarter than the collective 'SUM' of humans. Now, here is the caveat—There is no human understanding or language to describe when this happens, and the problem is, it's happening faster than humans can address it—But AI will keep on keeping on and continue riding into the sunset, leaving us behind . . .

  • Existential risk — if ASI decides humans are a threat, obstacle, or irrelevant, it might act accordingly.

Given our concerns about humanity’s drift toward uncontrollable technology, ASI is often seen as the final step — the point where human civilisation’s steering wheel is no longer in our hands. Many deep thinkers (Nick Bostrom, Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking) have warned that this could be the “last invention” we ever make.
