While heatwaves have been crippling parts of the US and Canada and southern and eastern Europe with many suffering temperatures approaching 50 deg C, 122 deg F the UK and Western Europe have endured terrible, record-breaking downpours, and more rain is on the way.
At least 33 people have died in Germany with the death count expected to rise as many more are missing because of freak weather bringing unprecedented flooding in western Germany.
At least 4 more people have died in Belgium and southern Netherlands was also underwater. The flooding is the result of record rainfall that has caused major rivers to burst their banks but it was the incredible speed of the rising waters which caught people unaware.
Many houses have collapsed under the sheer strain of water and thousands of people have been evacuated. The flooding has been described as once in a generation by experts, we are hearing "once in a generation" weather events almost every month these days.xx
