THE EARTH NOT A GLOBE
Dear Gary, a Watchman on the wall, and readers of the big Wobble,
attached is an article I've been gleaming even more research insight from, as I believe in Zetetic Astronomy. My research on this topic over many years is founded in the Bible, and books like "Earth Not A Globe!" An Experimental Inquiry Into The True Figure of the Earth: Proving It A Plane, Without Axial Or Orbital Motion; And The Only Material World In The Universe! That book was written in 1865 by Parallax.
For years I was a Professional Land Surveyor that did Cadastral Surveying. I soon found out that in so many of the places I was working, on a clear day with the special optics I used for my job, that let me see for miles, I could clearly see what is said to be impossible. That according to the Earths curvature calculation I could not see what I viewed with great joy. And to make things even a little more interesting when I went to college to become a Surveyor, the top professor pulled what I'll call his top students aside at times for talks. He had worked for years in Alaska as a Professional Land Surveyor. One of these private sessions we were told that with the right equipment, on clear days we would view the supposed impossible. I'll always remember that heads-up from him. He retired the next year and I was blessed to be given his private library of Survey books some years after, when on a visit to his home I told him I was moving to Alaska. Most of this post if you choose to place it out there on The Big Wobble is a part two researched and written by Jo Ann Lovik.
Soon I'll be sending you a post that talks about the hot salmon, and more info on what I'll call a cracked open a door, that I'd only heard rumors about concerning Alaska's rivers. I've met some First Nations Peoples that have verified these rumors. I'll not say whether they are Eskimo or Indians, or from what villages they and their families have resided in for generations. And that is because I expect this information will bring down the wrath of "BIG BROTHER!" They have families, I do not. If someone comes up missing or floating in a river, I'd prefer that someone to be me.
Gary you had placed the question out there "if the world were flat, sunrise would happen at the same time for the whole world, as would sunset, you thought." You might ponder this, it is written in Psalm 19:6,
New King James Version "Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat." Looking up the word “circuit” in a commentary and it ment “a coming round”. So the sun is traveling in a circle over the earth, that is why Joshua could point at the sun and moon and tell the to stop. The only way I can help you see the circle, is videos of sunsets. The sun is traveling in a big clockwise circle, if you are in the Arctic circle in the far north you would be able to stand in one place on June 21st and turn around with the sun and watch it because it will never set. When you are in the inside of the circle you will see the sun moving from left to right. Go to You Tube and type in Tee Harbor sunset Juneau Alaska and watch the sun set and see the reflection in the water traveling from left to right and the sun curves as it sets. Now when you are on the outside of the circle of the sun, the sun will move from right to left because it is going clockwise. On You Tube type in Sunset to Sunrise Cape Polliser New Zealand. You might also want to type in Four Seasons Sunrise to Sunset too.
I believe you might find this Bible Study Jo Ann wrote rather thought provoking. I know that it got this Alaskan pondering, and I came up with twenty topics in the Bible that most would say are impossible truths that are believed by most followers of that Biggest Book, and none of them have to do with the shape of the Earth.

To every Christian reading this article, I want to challenge you to let the Bible be the foundation of everything you believe about the earth we live on, and the heavens above us.
THE FIRMAMENT: GOD CALLED THE FIRMAMENT THE HEAVENS
The FIRMAMENT was created by separating the waters which were below the expanse, from the waters which were above the expanse (Genesis 1:6-8). “And God called the firmament heaven.”
1) ABOVE THE FIRMAMENT IS WHERE GOD’S THRONE RESIDES.
Isaiah 66:1 “Heaven is My throne, and the earth is the footstool for My feet. Where then is a house, you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest?”
Matthew 5:34 “But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,”
Matthew 23:22 “And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.”
Psalms 123:1 “To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!”
2) THE BIBLE DESCRIBES THE FIRMAMENT AS A VAULTED DOME, A VAULT, OR A TENT.
Amos 9:6 “The One who builds His upper chambers in the heavens and has founded His vaulted dome over the earth, He who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the face of the earth, the LORD is His name.”
Comment on Amos 9:6: the Hebrew word for “vaulted dome” is aguddah, which can have three meanings depending on the context: either vaulted dome, band or bands, or bunch. The context of the Scripture will decide the interpretation of the word. 2 Samuel 2:25 is an example of the word “aguddah” interpreted band. Exodus 12:22 is an example of the Hebrew word “aguddah” interpreted bunch: a bunch of hyssop.
The KJV took the word (aguddah) out of its context (the context being the heavens and the earth) and translated it “troop” instead. There are no men, war, or armies in the context of this verse. The Hebrew words that are translated troop are “chayyah or gedud” The ESV translates the verse Amos 9:6 “who builds His upper chambers in the heavens and founds His vault upon the earth.”
Isaiah 40:22 “It is He who sits above the vault of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.” This Hebrew word for tent is “ohel,” the common word for tent.
Job 22:14 “Clouds are a hiding place for Him, so that He cannot see; and He walks on the vault of heaven.”
Psalm 104:2b “stretching out heavens like a tent curtain.”
Psalm 19:4b “in them He has placed a tent for the sun.” The Hebrew word for tent “ohel” in this verse is the common word for tent, used hundreds of times in the Old Testament.
3) THE FIRMAMENT HAS WATERS ABOVE IT
Psalm 148:4 “Praise Him, highest heavens, and the waters that are above the heavens!”
4) THE FIRMAMENT IS DESCRIBED IN THE BIBLE AS BEING HARD
Proverbs 8:28 “when He made firm the skies above, when the springs of the deep became fixed,”
Job 37:18 “Can you, with Him spread out the skies, strong as a cast metal mirror?”
5) THE HEAVENS OR FIRMAMENT HAS ENDS AND THE EARTH HAS ENDS, THEY ARE CONNECTED
Matthew 24:31 “And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”
Deuteronomy 13:7 “of the gods of the peoples who are around you, near you or far from you, from one end of the earth to the other end.”
Isaiah 48:13 “Surely My hand founded the earth, and My right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand together.”
6) THE HEAVENS HAS WINDOWS, A DOOR, AND CAN BE SPLIT OPEN AND ROLLED UP
Genesis 7:11 “the windows of heaven were opened.”
Genesis 8:2 “the windows of heaven were closed.”
Revelation 4:1a “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven.”
Revelation 6:14 “The sky (other versions say the heavens) was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up.”
THE SUN, MOON, AND STARS ARE INSIDE THE FIRMAMENT
Genesis 1:17 “And God placed the sun, moon, and stars in (inside) the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth.”
Genesis 1:14 “Then God said, ‘Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens.’”
Psalm 19:4 “Their line has gone out into all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun.”
The sun is inside the firmament, which is described as a vault, dome, or tent.
WHAT THE SUN MOON AND STARS WERE CREATED FOR (Genesis 1:14-17)
1) To separate the day from night
2) for signs
3) for seasons
4) for days and for years
5) for lights in the expanse (firmament) of the heavens to give light on the earth. The greater light (sun) to rule the day and the lesser light (moon) to rule the night.
6) Made for man’s benefit: Deuteronomy 4:19 “And be careful not to raise your eyes to heaven and look at the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the heavenly lights, and allow yourself to be drawn away and worship them and serve them, things which the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.”
7) THE SUN GOVERNS THE DAY AND THE MOON GOVERNS THE NIGHT
Genesis 1:16 “And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars.”
Job 38:33 “Do you know the ordinances of the heavens, or fixed their rule over the earth?”
THE MOON IS A LIGHT, NOT A REFLECTOR
According to modern science, the moon reflects the suns light, but that is opposed to what the Bible says. God calls the moon a light.
Genesis 1:16 “God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night; and He made the stars also.”
Isaiah 13:10 “For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not flash forth their light; the sun will be dark when it rises, and the moon will not shed its light.”
Isaiah 30:26 “And the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days.”
Ezekiel 32:7 “And when I extinguish you, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give its light.”
Matthew 24:29 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”
Mark 13:24 “But in those days, after the tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light.”
THE SUN AND MOON ARE ALWAYS DESCRIBED IN THE BIBLE AS MOVING
Joshua 10:12-14 “Then Joshua spoke to the Lord on the day when the Lord turned the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, ‘Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, at the Valley of Aijalon!’ So, the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the Book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and did not hurry to go down for about a whole day. There was no day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.”
If you believe the spinning globe model, then you must think God stopped the spinning of a globe earth for 24 hours, then started it spinning again. But the Bible clearly says that it was the sun that stopped.
Psalm 19:4-6. “Their line has gone out into all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun, which is like a groom coming out of his chamber; it rejoices like a strong person to run his course. Its rising is from one end of the heavens, and its circuit to the other end of them; and there is nothing hidden from its heat.” It would be hidden on the globe.
Ecclesiastes 1:5 “Also, the sun rises, and the sun sets; and hurrying to its place it rises there again.”
2 Kings 20:9-11 “And Isaiah said, ‘This shall be the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go backward ten steps?’ So, Hezekiah answered, ‘It is easy for the shadow to decline ten steps; no, but let the shadow turn backward ten steps.’ And Isaiah the prophet cried to the LORD, and He brought the shadow on the stairway back ten steps by which it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.”
So again, if you want to believe the Bible is true, and you also want to believe you are on a spinning globe, then you must believe that God stopped the earth spinning, then started it spinning in the opposite direction for 10 hours, then started it up spinning again in the right direction again.
Psalm 50:1 “The Mighty One, God, the Lord, has spoken and summoned the earth, from the rising of the sun to its setting.”
THE SUN MOVES IN A CIRCLE ABOVE THE EARTH
Going between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, this circular movement can be best seen in the North. I went to YouTube videos and typed in: Juneau Alaska Sunset, Tee Harbor Sunset. If you watch the short sunset video, you can clearly see that the suns reflection is moving to the right as the sun is setting. Not only is the sun moving to the right in this YouTube video, but it is also curving as the sun is setting.

SOMEDAY THERE WILL BE NO MORE SUN OR MOON
Isaiah 60:19-20a “No longer will you have the sun for light by day, nor will the moon give you light for brightness; but you will have the Lord as an everlasting light, and your God as your glory. Your sun will no longer set, nor will your moon wane; for you will have the Lord as an everlasting light.”
Revelation 20:11 “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled, and no place was found for them.”
2 Peter 3:10 “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be discovered.”
THE EARTH
- THE EARTH WAS FORMED OUT OF WATER
2 Peter 3:5 “For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,”
Genesis 1:9-10 “Then God said, ‘Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear’; and it was so. And God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.”

- A LINE CAN BE STRETCHED TO MEASURE THE EARTH
Job 38:5 “Who sets its measurements? Since you know. Or who stretched the measuring line over it?”
Psalm 19:4 “Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun.”
- THE EARTH HAS EXPANSE, BREADTH, AND ENDS
Job 38:18 “Have you understood the expanse of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this.” This is not the way you would describe a ball.
Psalm 74:17a “Thou hast established all the boundaries of the earth;”
CLOUDS RISE UP FROM THE ENDS OF THE EARTH
Psalm 135:7 “He causes the vapors (clouds) to ascend from the ends of the earth;”
- THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE EARTH CAN BE LAID BARE
Psalm 18:15 “Then the channels of the water appeared, and the foundations of the world were exposed by your rebuke, Lord, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.”
2 Samuel 22:16 “Then the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were exposed.”
- THE EARTH IS HUNG ON NOTHING
Job 26:7 “He stretches out the north over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing.”
- 10) THE EARTH HAS BEEN GIVEN TO MAN
Psalm 115:16 “The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the earth He has given to the sons of mankind.”
- 11) EARTH IS IN THE SHAPE OF A CIRCLE NOT A BALL
Isaiah 40:22 “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them out like a tent to live in.”
Proverbs 8:27 “When He established the heavens, I was there; when He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep,”
Job 26:10 “He has inscribed a circle on the surface of the waters at the boundary of light and darkness.” (I think this is Antarctica). The word “ball” is found in Isaiah 22:18 and it is the Hebrew word (dur). The earth is never described as a ball (dur).
- 12) THE EARTH HAS ENDS
Psalm 59:13 “Destroy them in wrath, destroy them so that they will no longer exist; so that people may know that God rules in Jacob, to the ends of the earth.”
Psalm 135:7 “He causes the mist to ascend from the ends of the earth, He makes lighting for the rain; He brings forth the wind from His treasuries.”
Proverbs 30:4 “Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established the ends of the earth? What is His name or His Son’s name? Surely you know!”
Zechariah 9:10 “And I will eliminate the chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem; and the bow of war will be eliminated. And He will speak peace to the nations, and His dominion will be from sea to sea and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.”
- 13) CORNERS?? The Bible explains itself.
Isaiah 11:12 “And He will lift a flag for the nations, and assemble the banished ones of Israel, and will gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.”
Isaiah 43:5-6 “Do not fear, for I am with you, I will bring your offspring from the EAST, and gather you from the WEST. I will say to the NORTH, ‘Give them up!’ And to the SOUTH, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring My sons from afar.”
Matthew 24:31 “And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet blast, and they will gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” I believe when the Bible is talking about four corners it is talking about the four directions of the compass.
Daniel 11:4 has been translated both for winds of the heaven, and four points of the compass, depending which translation you are reading.
- 14) THE EARTH DOES NOT MOVE
Psalm 104:5 “He established the earth upon its foundations, so that it will not totter forever and ever.”
1 Chronicles 16:30 “Tremble before Him, all the earth, indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved.”
Psalm 93:1 “The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord has clothed and encircled Himself with strength. Indeed, the world is firmly established; it will not be moved.”
- 15) EARTH CAN BE SHAKEN UNDER GOD’S JUDGEMENT
Psalm 82:5 “They do not know, nor do they understand; they walk around in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.”
Isaiah 24:19-20 “The earth is broken apart, the earth is split through, the earth is shaken violently. The earth trembles like a heavy drinker and sways like a hut, for its wrongdoing is heavy upon it, and it will fall, never to rise again.”
Isaiah 13:13 “Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken from its place at the fury of the Lord of armies.”
- 16) THE BIBLE SAYS THE EARTH CAN BE SEEN ALL AT ONCE
Daniel 4:10-11 “Now these were the visions in my mind as I lay on my bed: I was looking, and behold, there was a tree in the middle of the earth and its height was great. The tree grew large and became strong and its height reached to the sky, and it was visible to the end of the whole earth.”
Matthew 4:8 “Again, the devil took Him (Jesus) along to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory.”
Isaiah 40:22 “It is He, who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers.”
Psalm 33:13-14 “The LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men; from His dwelling place He looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth.”
Revelation 21:23-25 “The city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb. And the nations shall walk by its light, and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory into it. And in the daytime (for there shall be no night there) its gates shall never be closed.” The only way the whole earth can have light from just one city would be if it were not in the shape of a globe, but if it were flat instead.
- 17) THE EARTH IS DESCRIBED AS GOD’S FOOTSTOOL
Isaiah 66:1 “Thus says the LORD, Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool.”
Matthew 5:35 “...or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.”
- 18) THE EARTH IS SAID TO HAVE A PLACE
Job 9:6 “It is He who shakes the earth from ITS PLACE, and its pillars tremble.”
Isaiah 13:13 “Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken from its place, at the fury of the Lord of armies.” The earth could hardly be described as having A PLACE if we believe it is traveling around the sun at 66,000 mph, and then the sun with all its planets moving together through the universe at 514,000 mph. Then, the earth could never, never be in the same place day to day ever again. Yet, the Bible describes the earth as having a place.
- 19) THE EARTH IS DESCRIBED AS A FACE
I only picked out just a few scriptures:
Zephaniah 1:3 “I will sweep away man and beast; I will sweep away the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, and the rubble with the wicked. I will cut off mankind from the face of the earth, declares the LORD.”
Amos 9:8 “Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the surface of the ground, except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares the LORD.”
Ezekiel 38:20 “The fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the people who are on the face of the earth, shall quake at my presence. And the mountains shall be thrown down, and the cliffs shall fall, and every wall shall tumble to the ground.”
Jeremiah 28:16 “Therefore thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will remove you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, because you have uttered rebellion against the LORD.’”
Jeremiah 27:5 “I have made the earth, the men and the beasts which are on the FACE OF THE EARTH by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and I will give it to the one who is pleasing in My sight.”
- 20) THE EARTH IS ABOVE WATERS
Psalm 136:6 “To Him who spread out the earth above the waters, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.”
- 21) THE NEW EARTH WILL BE FLAT
Revelation 21:16 “And the city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the rod, fifteen hundred miles; its length and width and height are equal.” The size of this city would cover about half the continental United States. If it were on a globe, then only the center would touch ground, and the edges, 750 miles from the center would be 70 miles up in the air.
Revelation 21:23 “And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.” In order for the light from the New Jerusalem to be seen over the whole earth, the earth would have to be flat.”
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS VERSES WHAT NASA SAYS
The Bible says that God created the heavens and the earth, but NASA says the “Big Bang” happened and that is how everything started.
The Bible says the heavens are shaped like a dome or tent, and the sun, moon, and stars are inside that dome that is called the firmament, but NASA says that space and the universe go on forever.
The Bible says the sun, moon, and stars are for days, years, and seasons, but NASA says that the motion of the earth as it spins around and travels around the sun is for days, years, and seasons.
The Bible says the moon is a light, but NASA says the moon is a reflector.
The Bible says the earth doesn’t move and has a place, but NASA says that the earth is spinning at 1,000 mph, and traveling around the sun at 66,000 mph, and then moving with all the planets together through the universe at 514,000 mph. If that were the case then, the earth could never, never be in the same place ever again. And we should never see the same constellations in the sky either, from night to night and year to year.
The Bible says the earth is on pillars, has ends, and is on a foundation that can be measured by stretching a line, but NASA mocks this notion and will hold up their “blue marble” shot of the earth (a CGI image) taken from the moon, as proof.
The Bible says the earth has ends, but NASA says the earth is a huge ball, and a ball does not have ends.
OBSERVABLE SCIENCE
THE CURVATURE OF THE EARTH TESTED
When I lived on San Juan Island in Washington State, on a clear day while standing on shore of South Beach, you could see ALL of Mount Rainier (including the foothills) which is 120 miles away from that beach. Mount Rainier is over 14,000 feet tall, but according to the earth’s curvature calculation you should have only been able to see the top 5,000 feet of Mount Rainier at 120 miles away. And if you doubled that distance to 240 miles, you would have 37,000 feet of earths curvature obscured from sight, and if you triple that distance, to a mere 360 miles away, you would have 85,000 feet obscured by the earth’s curvature. So, every time you fly in an airplane, it is a testimony you are living on a flat earth.
I looked on the internet to see what the internet said about how pilots adjusted their plane to fly on a curved earth. The internet said that they don’t have to make any adjustment at all, the pilots can just fly as though they are flying over a flat level surface (which of course they are), and then gravity will take over and act as a tether to the plane.
So, according to this internet article, they want you to believe you can take a nonstop flight from Los Angeles to Australia, flying over the flat oceans, with the special instruments (the altimeter and attitude indicator) keeping the plane totally level, but that you would land upside down from where you started, because you were tethered to the earth, a giant ball, by gravity. This is not the “apple dropping” type of gravity but a made-up magical force which no science can prove. But science books needed this special force that they say draws everything to its center while it draws smaller objects to larger objects and curves water around a big ball, which causes all the effects of the spinning of the earth going at 1,000 mph to completely disappear so you don’t feel any motion at all. Now, do your own experiments: throw a bunch of different size balls into a room and see if the smaller ones “gravitate” to the bigger ones, or pour water on a spinning ball and see if the water curves around the ball.
HORIZONS: Wherever you are on the earth or even up in the air, the horizon is always at your eye level; standing by the seashore, on top of a mountain, or flying in a plane, the horizon is always at your eye level. If you were really on a globe with that much of a curve that would not happen. If you want to see some photos of the earth’s horizon taken from a plane that have not been put through a computer generator to curve the photo or that have not been take with a “go-pro wide angle lense” that curves everything, but just a photo from a regular camera, then go to the Shutterstock website and type in the numbers for these photos: 1855768084, 1601636176, 1612305670, or 245436922. These photos will show you what the true horizon of the earth really looks like.
SHADOWS: Shadows are always larger than the object casting the shadow. Do your own experiment and take an object like a ball on a stick into a dark room, along with a flashlight. You can see for yourself that the shadow of the ball is bigger than the ball itself. The same can be said about the shadow of the moon that is cast on the earth during a total solar eclipse. During the 08/21/2017 total solar eclipse that crossed the United States, the shadow of the moon was seventy miles wide.
LUNAR ECLIPSES: NASA says that lunar eclipses are caused by the shadow of the earth, then they diagram this by showing a shadow coming off the earth getting smaller and smaller. But shadows don’t get smaller, they fan out and get bigger. And, lunar eclipses have been seen down through history while the sun is still above the horizon. I saw just such a lunar eclipse on YouTube.
My own personal experience was with the lunar eclipse of 09/27/2015 when I saw the moon rise in its total eclipsed phase, just 8 minutes after the sun set. It would have been impossible for the earth’s shadow to have caused this eclipse because the sun had barely set.
One of the most famous lunar eclipses to have been predicted was the one in 03/01/1504, when Christopher Columbus used his knowledge of the upcoming lunar eclipse to induce the natives of Jamacia to feed his men. Columbus got his knowledge from reading a book written by Abraham Zacuto who was born in 1452 and died in 1515. No one, at that time, believed in the earth’s shadow causing a lunar eclipse, but Abraham knew how to accurately predict them.
HOW FAR IS THE SUN FROM THE EARTH? With a sextant instrument, and using the triangulation method of plane geometry, you can do your own calculations. Imagine that you are standing on a beach in Florida at 12 noon. The sun would then be straight up in the sky at a 90-degree angle to the earth. And at the same time on the West Coast in Southern California the sun, at 9 AM, would be at a 45-degree angle in the sky. So, knowing 2 angles, and one side of the triangle (the width of the United States), you can measure the suns distance from the earth, which would be about 3,000 to 3,500 miles. This agrees with the Bible; God put the sun inside the firmament.
