As the clock struck 12 on new years eve 2019 our world clicked into a brand new decade and although we didn't quite know it at the time, global chaos. Just a week or so after new years eve celebrations, billions of people around the world had gone from a carefree evening celebrating and sipping champagne into a panic-stricken mob fighting over toilet rolls and stripping supermarkets of anything which wasn't bolted down. Since then 16 and a half million people have been infected with something called a coronavirus which has so far killed 650,000 and appears to be increasing into a second wave.
The virus, however, is just part of the horror story, since January the 1st 2020, our world has changed forever. For instance, the fires in Australia an almost forgotten event outside Aus was unprecedented killing or injuring an incredible 3 billion animals, destroying 25% of Australia's temperate forests and burning up 60% of its crop output for one year.
An ugly nasty aggressive side to mankind has exploded, spilling on to the streets of our cities spewing out a deep hatred for one and other that can only be called demonic in nature. Blacks against whites, whites against blacks and all colours against authority. Strange names have emerged for groups of people, hell-bent on causing mayhem, all with one thing in common, hatred toward their fellow people. The hatred has affected people like a virus itself, all-consuming, herding millions of people into baying mobs intent on violence and hate, behaving like screaming Banshees and clearly possessed by something dark and satanic.
The hatred has infected our leaders and politicians. A new cold war has emerged with the usual suspects hovering around the fragile West like hyenas waiting for the right moment to strike. Israel is at war with Iran sponsored Hezbollah, North Korea's Kim Jong Un is again threatening its neighbours and China and Russia are waiting to pounce on the soft underbelly of the US, on its knees, rudderless just when the country should be showing solidarity to the rest of the world as we draw closer and closer to WWIII.
Jesus warned us when he said, “Now learn this illustration from the fig tree: Just as soon as its young branch grows tender and sprouts its leaves, you know that summer is near. " Summer, of course, being a euphemism for his return.
In Matthew 24, Jesus warned us of time like these: “You are going to hear of wars and reports of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for these things must take place, but the end is not yet. “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another. All these things are a beginning of pangs of distress. “Then people will hand you over to tribulation and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations on account of my name. Then, too, many will be stumbled and will betray one another and will hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and mislead many; and because of the increasing of lawlessness, the love of the greater number will grow cold. But the one who has endured to the end will be saved. And this good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. Sound familiar?
More than 245 million Christians live in countries where they experience high levels of persecution. Churches and religious statues being vandalised in the West. In 2020 persecution against Christianity has ballooned around the world.
Unprecedented rainfall which started back in early June and is now still raging and has caused horrendous floods affecting untold millions including killing nearly a seven hundred people along an immense portion of the globe and shows no stopping anytime soon. From West Africa, the Middle East, Arabia, Indo Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China and Japan have all received Biblical amounts of rainfall. Stranger still all the regions mentioned above, (except Japan) are all being crippled by another Biblical plague, unprecedented numbers of Locust swarms, billions of them and stranger still all the above regions are where Christians are being persecuted.
Of course, the Doomsday clock is closer than ever at just 100 seconds to midnight. Tensions have spiked between the West and China, Russia and Iran. Nuclear war is now closer than ever and the war rhetoric from world leaders is a thinly disguised hatred of each other.
