The first eruption of the Krasheninnikov Volcano in 600 years in volatile Kamchatka, following the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano eruption after Tuesday's maga quake—Two more massive aftershocks a M7 and a M6.4 bring the total to 11 mag 6 or higher since the M8.8 on Tuesday.

Last night, another massive aftershock rocked the Kamchatka Peninsula, as well as a M6.4. It brings the total number of major aftershocks (mag 6 or higher) to rock the area since the Magnitude 8.8 to 11. More than 500 quakes of Magnitude 4.5 or higher have been recorded there in the last 30 days. The area is extremely volatile, with Russian seismatologists expecting the aftershocks to carry on for several weeks. Another tsunami warning was issued for Russian residents living in the area.

Hours before the latest aftershocks, another volcano erupted, the second since the M8.8 mega quake on Tuesday.  The Krasheninnikov Volcano erupted for the first time in 600 years. The Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano nearby erupted on Friday, also after the M8.8.

Earlier, the Russian Emergencies Ministry's regional branch for Kamchatka Krai, using KVERT data, reported an ash emission from Krasheninnikov Volcano, which reached a height of up to six kilometres. At the same time, the volcano itself stands at 1,856 meters above sea level. "This is the first historical eruption of Krasheninnikov Volcano in 600 years," Girina said. "At present, a crack is observed on the slope and a lava dome is forming, which is accompanied by powerful steam and gas activity. At the same time, a powerful ash column is standing over the northern crater of the volcano, and the ash plume is stretching to the east of the volcano."

Tremors with a force of up to magnitude 8 were also felt in the northern Kuril Islands. A tsunami alert was declared in Kamchatka and in the Severo-Kurilsk region, where a state of emergency was also declared. Four tsunami waves partially damaged the port infrastructure and other facilities. Later, sea and helicopter services and the local port in Severo-Kurilsk resumed work.
