Marching On Together

Marching On Together I have had a romance with a lady since my childhood just like thousands of other people around the world who are also in love with her. I have remained in love with her through the many bad times and the few good times, my love for her has never faltered and never will. My lady's name is Leeds United and she is just five games away from returning to the English Football Premiership, after sixteen years in the football wilderness. In the sixties, seventies and early nineties my lady was known as "Super Leeds," however in 2003, my love was relegated from the English Football Premiership due to financial miss-handling by her owners. "Super Leeds," dropped down to the third tier of English football. If Leeds United can grab ten points from their last five games my lady will be back where she belongs in the higher echelons of English football and I can once more embrace my love with happiness.

Quite understandably the world's attention is diverted to events in the US and the Covid-19 Pandemic, many of you will have missed certain events happening around the world, the last few days have seen a whole lotta shakin' goin' on.

This morning a magnitude 6.8, reduced to a 6.4 by USGS rocked Tobelo, Indonesia. No Tsunami Warning, Advisory, Watch, or Threat is in place for this quake. Yesterday, magnitude 6.8 struck San Pedro de Atacama, off the coast of Chile.

Also yesterday, a powerful magnitude  5.5 rocked Searles Valley, CA, this interesting because it occurred on the edge of a swarm of more than 500 smaller quakes which have rattled the area in the last week, see below.

Another ongoing swarm is up by Tonopah on the California, Nevada border, more than 2,000 small quakes have rattled the area this week.

More than a dozen earthquakes struck an area near Yellowstone National Park within 24 hours. The US Geological Survey (USGS), who monitor seismic activity across the US, recorded the latest earthquake swarm to hit the area last Friday. The USGS data recorded 20 significant earthquakes with 1.5 magnitudes or higher on that day, amongst dozens of smaller tremors. The largest earthquake was recorded at 3.1 magnitude and struck at a depth of 6 miles, at 11:39am on 29 May.

As we approach the halfway point in 2020 the world has recorded 48 major quakes (mag 6 or higher) at the same point in 2019 had recorded considerably more with a total of 61 major quakes. 2018 had recorded considerably less with 42, horses for courses.
