We could have another (Honshu, magnitude 9) Japan type earthquake cluster happening right now in Turkey: A powerful trinity of major quakes Magnitude 7.8/7.5//6.7 and a large cluster of strong aftershocks are devastating a heavily populated poor area of the Middle East which is also experiencing a terrible cold-snap

Update: Three very powerful major quakes have now rocked South Eastern Turkey and Western Syria. Many very strong aftershocks have followed. . .

Three extremely powerful quakes rocked southeastern Turkey early this morning. According to Turkish President Recep Erdogan, the two quakes have killed more than 1,000 people with many more injured levelling buildings across several cities and causing damage in neighbouring Syria.

The US agency said that the mag 7.8 quake struck at 04:17 am local time (0117 GMT) at a depth of about 17.9 kilometres (11 miles), with a 6.7-magnitude aftershock striking 15 minutes later and the magnitude 7.5 later this morning.
