"Everything's dead!" Marine mystery in Canada's Novah Scotia intensifies! Now everything is dying!

A marine mystery is confounding residents of southwest Nova Scotia who are watching thousands of dead fish, starfish, crabs, clams, scallops and lobster wash up on the shore.
Residents of Plympton, a small community in Digby County, say they have been finding dead herring on the shore of St. Mary's Bay for more than a month, but recently other marine life has started washing up dead.
Dead fish have also been found on the shores of the Annapolis Basin.
"We started finding starfish, crabs, flounder.
We found ocean perch and then yesterday we started finding scallops on the beach and like I said everything's dead... we'd like to know what's going on," said Karl Cole.
"It's just really sad to see, you know, hundreds of starfish, shellfish.
I grew up clamming here so to come to your hometown and see so much death on the beach is really sad," said Eric Hewey.
Hewey took photos of the beach and posted them to his Facebook page Monday, writing: "Herring, Lobster, Bar clams, Starfish and more.
No idea what caused this.
Likely it could be a natural disaster.
Please try not to jump to any conclusions until we get a response from Natural Resources, or another credible source."
In less than a day his post has been shared almost 11,000 times and garnered more than 1,000 comments.
Many people are ignoring Hewey's admonishment and suggesting their own theories about what happened.
But there are still no answers. On Dec. 15, Fisheries and Oceans Canada announced that tests on the dead herring had produced negative results, meaning no infections or infectious agents had been detected in the small, silvery fish.
It said it would continue testing and warned consumers to only buy herring from licensed harvesters until they figure out why the fished died.
Residents say the department is aware of the latest developments and has taken samples for further testing.
CTV Atlantic reached out to the department for comment on Tuesday, but did not receive a response.

      It's a strong possibility that it's the result of the massive algae blooms. With the steady rise in ocean temperatures caused by global warming, we have been seeing massive algae blooms all across the globe over this past decade or so. These massive algae blooms deplete the water surrounding them of oxygen, in turn killing off all other sea life in their vicinity.

      Algae blooms are the result of an excess of nutrients (particularly phosphorus and nitrogen) into waters and higher concentrations of these nutrients in water cause increased growth of algae and green plants. It is not caused by global warming. If it is algae bloom then the more likely cause is from raw sewage.

      I live a couple hours from here. Yes the spelling is wrong which casts doubt on the author, but unfortunately it is accurate. Department of Fisheries are investigating and have been since the herring first started dying. They have ruled out a virus (as it wouldn't affect so many species), algal blooms (all the tests have come back negative), and it's not Fukushima radiation as we are on the OTHER SIDE of the EARTH (and two massive continents) and one could expect to see die-offs between Fukushima and the Bay of Fundy. In my humble opinion, I believe since the die-offs are seen in proximity to the Sissiboo River that the issue is with the river runoff. I assure you, no one in this province is taking this lightly and everything is being done to investigate and fix the issue. We are a heavily fishing province and things like this are very disturbing and widely felt across the province!

Spell checking is probably the easiest type of fact-checking to do. Folks calling 'grammar nazi' are kind of missing the whole point here.

      The Fukushima radiation reached the west coast of the USA last year. We can tell by the presence of Cesium 134 which only has a 2 year half life, and could not have been sourced from anywhere other than Fukushima. It is not very strong a radiation source in the coastal Pacific, as it would require over 13,000 gallons of ocean water to have the same radioactive material content of your average banana. The nasty isotopes from Fukushima cannot travel very far from the reactor site because they are simply too heavy and sunk into the sediment near the plants where it was released. In addition, the water being used to cool the cores is decreasing in radiation content all the time as the material that was loose enough to be carried from the reactor cores has already been flushed out over the past 5 years. There are certainly some big problems that remain there, but hysterical "concerns" about Fukushima's impact on the oceans in general, and especially on the northern Atlantic are born of pure ignorance and anti-nuclear propaganda.

    North Pole has moved over 400 miles and is currently moving about a mile a day towards Siberia. This is causing marine life, birds, etc.... to lose their bearing. And now areas that had cooler waters are now too warm for marine life. We are all in trouble! Also, we have a planet, Nibiru, affecting our magnetic poles as well. But chances are good that it is algae bloom- it happens all over the globe and on a pretty regular basis. Here in coastal Alaska they notify us when it is not safe to gather and eat our own shellfish.

    I think people may be a little off on some of these thoughts. Please notice this is Atlantic not Pacific. This may very well be the upflow from the Gulf of Mexico spill toxic clean up that has entered the Gulf Stream and reached the outer banks of Nova Scotia. We are talking highly toxic Corexit which does not seem to dissipate. This issue here in Nova Scotia seems to be the same results with the marine life. Not only the toxics but the stuff removes the oxygen from the water suffocating the marine life. Question is why do they deny it????? Ack as though they have no idea why this is happening. Sad

    the water flow along Nova Scotia comes from the north along Greenland folks..is called the Labrador Current and travels from north to south. So this talk of stuff from the gulf and such is hogwash..

    Is something coming off the massive ice melts of Greenland is more like it. Some of that ice has been frozen for millions of years they say..who the hell knows whats in it....and what is now in the Atlantic Ocean..it continues down the coast to NY and such and then joins the Gulf Stream Current and crosses the Atlantic, so we shall see if it is in the water or just the ocean of Nova Scotia.

    It can hardly be from Fukushima considering Nova Scotia is on the eastern coast of Canada (Atlantic) and Fukushima is in the Pacific following a route up to the Alaskan panhandle and down the entire west coast of North America then back into the pacific.     Jeez you guys; fukushima is on the pacific side of Canada. The probable problems which should be checked first is ocean salinity, oxygen content of the water, temperature! I would like to believe that DFO would have checked for pollutant spills or anything like that and any poisons present in the analysis of the different species they did would show up quickly. Are there any sick people anywhere in the area? What would it take to kill the whale that has died?

    This is more than likely due to the use of massive amounts of Roundup the glyphosate contain in it is a broad-spectrum antibiotic better for kills all the microorganisms in the water this bacteria feeds life this is why eating it is dangerous and we shouldn't be eating any food with these toxins on them or farming with them Monsanto and croplife is literally killing the earth and the oceans look to the farmers in the area using these toxic herbicides this is the problem nothing less fact I've done enough research to understand it unfortunately the government is ignoring it in the name of profit what good will money be when you have no food no oceans and the wildlife eat organic and do your part stop buying toxic food for the people supporting this if you are eating organic you are the cause of the problem.

    The idea that we "need" "credible authorities" to make a determination on what has happened is ludicrous and defies common sense and logic. People may choose blindness, but people are not stupid. The government agencies who claim authority as the only ones to provide an answer, are often, if not most of the time, liars. Just look at how the DFO in B.C. has been lying about the deadly viruses in farmed salmon pens, so they can protect the corporations vested interests, and get a great under the table pay back no doubt.

    EVERYBODY who is even marginally literate can spell correctly, if they are willing to do the research instead of relying on their memory. If a "reporting" organization isn't willing to do this, why trust them to do anything else any better? If they're reporting science, misspellings can have real consequences. It's not like TV, where you can guess what people are going to say ahead of time.

    what I think is going on is nova Scotia had the driest summer in like 135 and alot of water went away so the island got lighter so it raised and lava filled the gap and with all this rain the water is coming back and the island is getting heavier so it's putting pressure on the lava and what happens when something gets compressed??? it starts looking for holes and there r alot of holes in the ocean so it's warming up the water and it's killing everything that is my theory and I bet I could get evidence to prove it like the earthquakes for example so it's nature
